Description David King 2012-12-16 17:39:15 UTC
As discussed on the mailing list:

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/easytag-list/2012-December/msg00008.html

EasyTAG maps the Artist and Original Artist text entry fields to comment fields in a way that is inconsistent with the Vorbis comment specification:

http://www.xiph.org/vorbis/doc/v-comment.html

For popular music, the rough logic should be that if an original artist is given in addition to an artist, the original artist should be stored in the "ARTIST" field and the performing artist (simply ‘Artist’ in the UI) should be stored in the "PERFORMER" field. For simpler handling, it would make sense to rename the ‘Original Artist’ text entry field to ‘Performer’. For classical music, the composer should be stored in the "ARTIST" field and the performers should be stored in the "PERFORMER", which would also match the Vorbis specification if the UI field is renamed.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/easytag/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
