It can be hard to read a document with a lot of annotations. It would be nice to have a simple way to hide them.

Poppler just got a feature that will allow us to do this:
commit 8550576bdf74180b62f54f9fd59213fbcd0a1be1
Author: José Aliste <jaliste@src.gnome.org>
Date: Sat Dec 8 10:33:04 2012 -0300

    glib: Add poppler_annot_set_flags

    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58015

This is in git master now and will be in the 0.22 release.

For 0.24 there will be a better API that will only disable the rendering of the annotations rather than modify the hidden state in the document.

Should there be a way to add annotations too?
Comment 2 Cosimo Cecchi 2013-06-07 15:24:11 UTC
If we want it, I'd treat that as a separate feature/bug report.

The latest mockups on the Wiki have a couple of buttons next to the gear menu -- one of them seems to be for showing and hiding annotations. Is this correct?

Looks that way. Attaching the relevant wireframe here - the plan is to show a toggle button for annotations in the header bar.

We should remember the hide/show state of the annotations the same way we remember the page number - using GdMetadata.

I couldn't find any such API in current poppler git master, and Carlos (KaL) wasn't aware of anything either.

Filed https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90234 against poppler.
Comment 7 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 11:32:19 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-documents/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
