GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 689506
Configure Input Devices - Tablet Settings Don't work w PActive 19" Tablet Monitor
Last modified: 2012-12-05 08:41:20 UTC
I have tried changing the settings every way I can think, and it will NOT work. It acts very wierd, such as on touching the stylist to the monitor, it tries to move the image, and also right clicks like bringing up rt click menu, and generally goes off, and the display pointer is way off to the side or top. I have a multi-monitor setup, with the P-Active 19" tablet monitor as the primary display and a Dell 21" LCD Monitor as secondary. NOTE* this tablet works fine in ALL other paint apps, with the exception of smooth draw, and they recently fixed this in an update. This tablet has 1024 Levels of pressure sensitivity. Now it works fine when the tablet input device is disabled, and only used via the Core pointer input device, the only thing is if I use it this way, I don't have access to the levels of sensitivity, so drawing pressure will not affect opacity or any of the other dynamic settings that I would love to be able to use... The tablet works perfectly fine inside: 3D-Coat 3.7+, VoidWorld or aka NViL, also inside Corel Painter, Paint.Net, etc.. maybe you could find out what others have done to get the other tablet monitors such as my PActive 19" one to work in their software, and incorporate those changes. I know it is something simple because other apps that had an issue, with it not working stated that they implemented a simple fix for Generic style tablet monitors that fixed the pressure issues.. I would be forever indebted if you could fix this issue and get it working, as I make games, and love The Gimp, and want very badly to be able to use it to work on my sprite images.. I don't want to have to go back to Adobe Photoshop CS6, but I need an app that works with my tablet monitor and stylist so I can draw and edit graphics with pressure sensitivity properly. Thank you for understanding, I hope you can take care of this quickly, as it looks like plenty of other users are complaining about tablet issues in the bugzilla list. Thanks again, Jason Zaphyr aka StOrM3
If your tablet does not support wintab API then it wont work, period. If it does then the support is still broken... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 687193 ***
Yes it supports wintab api, and it works just fine under smoothdraw once I check the box that puts it into compatibility. It also works under Gimp but only when I use it as a mouse pointer w/ no pressure sensitivity. The P-Active tablet is based on one of the older wacom cintiq's, and even works with there drivers.. So long story short, support is still broken... Which makes me wonder why it has taken so long for anyone to address this bug.. Since I think the first mention of tablet issues for gimp was back in 2010.. Oh well, I guess I can do regular stuff in gimp and then for pressure coloring I'll just use corel painter or smooth draw... Thanks for any help you can provide.. I'll keep an eye on this bug just to see if they do anything with it in the near future..
It takes long because we have virtually zero windows developers, only several millions of users, none of which seems to be able to do anything about it...
