Description David King 2012-12-01 16:53:55 UTC
From the original bug:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2858560&group_id=5216&atid=355216

It would be nice to have possibility to choose a charset that is used in database. Most Russian tags in databases are stored in cp-1251, but under Linux they are displayed as they are in KOI-8.

It might be better to do some rudimentary auto detection of the character encoding, similar to GEdit.

EasyTAG has supported requesting UTF-8 results from CDDB since 1.99.4 (released in 2005), using CDDBP version 6. There might still be some scope for checking if the encoding of the result is valid, but ideally that is the responsibility of the server. Unless there is a demonstrable bug in handling the returned text, this request seems obsolete.
