Description beton 2012-12-01 12:25:18 UTC
With new contact list look empathy has lost an option to let user choose whether contacts should be sorted alphabetically or by their status.
This is annoying because now with offline contacts displayed (which sometimes is necessary for contacts that are invisible) we have to look throughout whole list to see who is online and who isn't. Right now, even the patch that allows change by editing dconf entry would be nice.

The new empathy roster design doesn't support "status sorting" any more. Allan could explain the rational behind this decision.

But note that you still can hide offline contacts if you want to.

Because of protocols that allow contacts to be invisible, hiding offline contacts isn't a solution.

There's a workaround for that, but it isn't flawless - when you add contact to favorites, it will be displayed even if it's online.

IMO not supporting status sorting is a bad decision - let's look for instance on gtalk web chat - contact's are sorted by status by default (unless I've changed something and can't find option for that) and that's what many gtalk users would expect from desktop client.
