GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 689345
Give priority to application names when searching
Last modified: 2016-03-31 14:00:47 UTC
So; I've got simple-scan and gnome-boxes installed. I look for "simple s" in the shell, and the first hit is gnome-boxes. I truly don't get why gnome-boxes is given as the first result here, but it doesn't seem right. In any case, matches on the name of the software/package should probably be sorted first than other matches.
It seems that search is matching against the generic name: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-boxes/tree/data/gnome-boxes.desktop.in.in Marking as a dupe of bug 682529. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 682529 ***
Looking at this again, the problem seems to be with Boxes. Searching the GenericName *should* be fine. The issue is that "Simple" isn't a good word to include in GenericName [1]. "Virtual Machine Viewer" seems more appropriate in this case. [1] http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s05.html

I don't think we'll be pushing non-critical fixes to 3.6 anymore so changing the version.
