GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 688584
Floating statusbar can obscure files/directories, making it hard to use e.g. when renaming
Last modified: 2012-11-20 00:16:49 UTC
Steps to Reproduce: 1. Browse to a directory that contains enough items to fill the entire view, where the files have long names (e.g. music or text documents such as "J K Rowling - Harry Potter Book 5 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix [Pottermore].epub"). 2. Switch to list view mode. 3. Select the item that is at the bottom of the list views visible area. Observation: At this point, the statusbar will display something along the lines of '"foo" selected (1.1 MB)'. If the filename is long enough, this will cover the entire width of the listview, obscuring the file (or directory) that is currently selected. If the filename is shorter, you can still get the file/directory obscured by: 1. shifting the statusbar over to the left (by hovering over it if it is on the right). 2. scrolling to the item at the bottom of the list view. In this case it is possible to hover over the status bar to get it to move to the right. In the long filename case, the statusbar is too wide for this to work effectively. This is especially problematic if you want to rename the file/directory as you cannot see the text you are typing (it is obscured by the statusbar).
