I think the photo previews should be larger by default.

We also should work to make the labels less dominant.

I think we should probably hide the filename by default. Most of the time they just aren't interesting. "IMG40254" or "DSC7722" or "Screenshot from 2012-11-17 20:58:42.png".

I think we should show names for Albums/Collections but not photos.

We can still match searches against the filename and still show the filename in the properties.

Looking back at my original mockups I see that I didn't want filenames displayed. You can see one of the photos has the caption "Caption not filename" to try to show this :)

The captions could be stored separately from the filename.

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
