GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 688501
The 'Overview' is totally out of balance.
Last modified: 2012-11-28 10:01:26 UTC
Created attachment 229199 [details] Centering. Not. Hi, I know some work has been done to make use of space but I'm not sure what's being fixed. And the only thing I could find about the subject was #683508. So here it is. As you will see, things are not aligned properly. Image attached. :)
I started working on this for the wip/re-search branch, but unfortunately what I tried to do was incorrect. This is going to require the wip/re-search branch (or at least Overview as BoxLayouts) to land, along with a custom layout manager that centers things.
I'd love to see this happen. I think what we said was: * Window thumbnails should be centered where possible, but should be as big as possible - expanding to fill the available horizontal space if necessary. * The application view should be centered (somewhat dependent on what happens with the categories). * Search results should be centered.
Glad to know about the work. That only leaves the Dash vs. Workspace-container problem where: 1- WS-C is taller and wider than the Dash. 2- Focusing on middle of the screen, with the WS-C revealed, you'll notice that the overview is imbalance. Not sure if the empty-space fixe addresses the issue, but I feel like the Overview could use some work proportion-wise.
To balance it we can do: -- WS-C is vervically centered with no extra spacing -- partly-hided WS-C width same as dash width -- WS-C is partly-hided always, except it's got hovered / drag initiated / dash icons hovered.
Or even better: * Workspace-container will be same size in partly-hided state as Dash. * Workspace-container will expand if it's hovered or related to it stuff is going.
Seems that we already have a bug for the planned overview layout work. Marking this as a duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 682286 ***
