GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 688315
allow to override 'weak password' warning
Last modified: 2013-02-14 11:45:34 UTC
It is somewhat annoying that I have to make up super-contorted passwords to get past this dialog... I understand the need for a way to control this, but we should have a setting that allows us to add a 'Use anyway' button in that dialog. Security-concerned admins can lock that key down to make the button go away.
It's also not specifically stated how complex the new password needs to be. It's annoying that in many cases it's possible to set an easy password in the distro installer but you can't set that same password or even one slightly more complex after installation in Settings.
I agree with both Matthias and Jeremy. While the software should offer the _possibility_ to apply mandatory strong passwords, the admins should be able to decide whether that possibility shall be enabled. And it makes much sense that the same password strength is applied at installation and later.

I think this was addressed today, with http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-control-center/commit/?id=973d1cac6bc0d065af1b5e07435c42b6bec2eea1
