Here we see GIMP opened "maximized" after closed maximized. It shouldn't show the top bar.

Many Linux users use Ubuntu and the standard shell Unity.

Unlike other applications GIMP don't open maximised if it is closed maximised. This happens in the one-window-mode.

When reopened after being closed maximised, the program window is too large for the screen space available and extends below the bottom edge of the screen. This was confirmed at least for GIMP.

This happens at least for me with a monitor resolution of 1366 x 768.

Come on! Do you want to start a discussion or do you want to fix this bug?
Comment 4 Michael Natterer 2012-11-11 13:08:10 UTC
Do you expect us to use some ubuntu library to do this, or will it come
for free when using GtkApplication in GTK+ 3.x?
Comment 5 Michael Natterer 2012-11-11 13:10:20 UTC
In your first screenshot, where is the menubar? Why did you hide it?
Comment 6 Thomas Hotz 2012-11-11 13:16:02 UTC
I maximize GIMP and there isn't a menu bar any more. It's how it should work.

No, it would be enough to determine how to fix it with GtkApplikation, but I have only C coding experience to create programs that run in a Terminal :)

Ok the menu bar here it is, sorry

Here is the menu bar in the first screenshot.
Comment 8 Thomas Hotz 2012-11-11 13:27:52 UTC
And then, when I maximize GIMP it's in the top bar the menubar included.

But when reopened, GIMP is not maximized :) That's for me the bug.

Please ask me if you now understand it.
Comment 9 Michael Natterer 2012-11-11 13:32:51 UTC
Err, do you want to say that Ubuntu hacked up GTK+ and moves the menubar
up there, and GIMP is supposed to support this hack? I'm so not convinced.
Comment 10 Michael Natterer 2012-11-11 13:33:28 UTC
Please make sure your attachments have the right mime-type.
Comment 11 Michael Natterer 2012-11-11 13:34:32 UTC
And to me it seems as if Ubuntu manages to do that all by itself, what
support from GIMP do you expect?
Comment 12 Thomas Hotz 2012-11-11 13:39:59 UTC
Ok, Michael, but it works with programs like Rhythmbox, Pitivi, Inkscape, Shotwell,... so I can't tell you how the make it.

Yeah, you are the Maintainer of GIMP, so it's your decission if you fix it or not.
Comment 13 Michael Natterer 2012-11-11 14:05:07 UTC
Perhaps you can start with telling what exactly doesn't work, you
just attached that PNG where ubuntu managed to move the menubar up,
so what is "broken"? What works in these apps but doesn't in GIMP?
Comment 14 Thomas Hotz 2012-11-11 14:35:17 UTC
Ok steps to reproduce:

1) Install the standard Ubuntu 12.10 Image
2) Install GIMP version 2.8.x
3) As you might have seen this is in one-window-mode (you have to switch to it)
4) Then maximize GIMP (see screenshot 2)
5) Close GIMP
6) Open GIMP -> it should look like the same as before(!)
7) Looks like screenshot 3

This should be fixed that it looks like screenshot 2 after reopening.

But I'm sorry I can't describe it better in English so if you want to test all this just install a Unity shell if it's available to you.

It doesn't only is Ubuntu, because Unity is a modern Shell available on various Distributions.
Comment 15 Thomas Hotz 2012-11-11 14:39:02 UTC
And for me it's difficult to test it under Windows, Mac Os, GNOME, KDE or XFCE how it's there.
Comment 16 Michael Schumacher 2012-11-11 14:42:53 UTC
Duplicate of bug #597094?
Comment 17 Michael Natterer 2012-11-11 15:12:37 UTC
Yes indeed, this bug is in fact about restoring the maximized state
in a new session.
