Gnome Terminal places new window on the corner, could be manually moved, but annoying.

The attached patch place the first window in the center of the screen. (If window manager obey the protocols.)

Window placement is the job of the window manager. I *like* my windows in the corner; if you want yours elsewhere, fix your window manager placement algorithm.
