GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 687856
Manual Link Option Inexistent (metacontacts)
Last modified: 2013-01-02 09:58:31 UTC
There's no way to manually group conctacts into metacontacts in Ubuntu 12.10 (empaty 3.6.0.3) I'm only receiving the automatic group contacts that works "magically" (it merged a yahoo with a facebook account, but not with an msn that has the same name).
You should be able to right-click on a contact, select Information (which will open them in Gnome Contacts), then right-click on their name and choose "Add/Remove Linked Contacts". I think both of those steps need to be improved, since the distinction between Edit and Information in Empathy is a little hard to understand and linking in Gnome Contacts is totally undiscoverable (this used to be discoverable, but changed around Gnome 3.4, I think). I've filed bug #687893 and bug #675033 already existed for these. Alexandru, can you manage linking if you follow the steps at the beginning?
I can't right click a contact from the Contacts App (About Contact says version 3.6.0 )
(In reply to comment #2) > I can't right click a contact from the Contacts App (About Contact says version > 3.6.0 ) I guess this changed in 3.6.0. Alex, can you please explain how to manually link contacts in 3.6.x?
What do you mean ? How would I like it, or how does it work now. For the first, ctrl-click accounts, right click select merge / or enter a meta contact mode with checkboxes, for the latter, it's not working now :).

Ah, sorry, that's my fault, I meant to address Alex Larsson, the Gnome Contacts maintainer (who I added on cc). Sorry about that confusion, Alexandru :)
Yeah, there is a bug in contacts that makes it a bit hard to get the context menu that has the linking item. ATM You need to right-click on the right hand pane, but it doesn't work in all places, like on the empty background. Try right clicking on the full name for instance.
Right Clicking on a name Works. Thanks!
Closing as we already have bug #678477 about how hard it is to open this menu. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 678477 ***
