Description Hammer Attila 2012-11-06 08:41:46 UTC
Dear Developers,

In Ubuntu 13.04 development release I experienced following problem when I listed org.gnome.nautilus.desktop schema the awailable keys with gsettings list-keys org.gnome.nautilus.desktop command:
The computer-icon-name and computer-icon-visible settings is missing the awailable keys. I don't no this is only a downstream Ubuntu 13.04 specific issue or not, because Ubuntu 13.04 factory level packaged with following Nautilus version: 1:3.6.2-0ubuntu2
Possible this version a modifyed Nautilus version, similar with Quantal.

The gsettings list-keys org.gnome.nautilus.desktop command show following keys:
background-fade
font
home-icon-name
home-icon-visible
network-icon-name
network-icon-visible
text-ellipsis-limit
trash-icon-name
trash-icon-visible
volumes-visible

I using Ubuntu 13.04 development release with GNOME3 fallback session, this session Nautilus handles the desktop.
The Ubuntu level packaged Nautilus versions happened following changes since Ubuntu 13.04 development opened:
"nautilus (1:3.6.2-0ubuntu2) raring; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/15_use-ubuntu-help.patch:
    - Updated to not point to Ubuntu help when running GNOME (LP: #852911)

The Computer backend has been intentionally removed from Nautilus 3.6 - you can access your devices or the hard drive root from the sidebar.

Closing as NOTABUG.

Hy Cosimo,

Thank you your answer. I little sad when I read your answer, because I think if sidebar are enabled Nautilus little slowest with Orca. So because now the computer icon possibility in the desktop removed, if the user not want enabling the sidebar always need going the places menu in GNOME3 fallback session and need selecting computer menu item if want browsing drives.

Why keeped other icon types and why removed only the computer icon possibility the developers? Or future the other now existing desktop icon possibilities is removing too (present home folder icon, network servers icon, trash icon and mounted volumes icons)?
Default the prewious existing computer-icon-visible setting value is false, so if the user not want presenting this icon the desktop, this icon default not present the desktop. Not have chance to this possibility are restore a new Nautilus 3.8 version?
