1) Plug in a network cable which is not actually connected to a network (in my case it is connected to a machine that is turned off)
2) The shell keep notifying me that it cannot connect to the wired network
3) The shell menu does not allow me to turn it off because it says "connecting"
4) Open Network Settings and go to the "wired" page
5) Try to use the switch button to turn it off: it does not work and snaps back to on
