Description gan lu 2012-10-25 12:59:51 UTC
Just minutes ago I knew typing anything in Overview will move focus to the search box, but I have used gnome 3.x from the beginning of first 3.0 release. It's such a good option but badly hidden, and this behaviour is quite different from most other applications.

Maybe the tittle has to be "Make 'search box focused' feature more clear to the user", because the search box is focused as default in overview.
Comment 2 gan lu 2012-10-26 12:30:31 UTC
Yes, should be "make search box focused by default in Overview", that will absolutely increase usage of search box.

It has a down side: taping ESC after opening the overview does not close it immediately anymore, since it first unfocus the search entry.
Comment 5 Carlos Soriano 2012-11-12 14:35:38 UTC
If the problem is that the color is very obscure for unfocused search entry, there's a bug and a patch already commited:

Please see my answer to bug 646754. I understand the reasoning behind this report, but I'm not sure that it would work in the general design of the overview.
