Description Stanislav Brabec 2012-10-24 16:14:07 UTC
The Desktop Menu Specification[1] incorporated changes and proposals collected in last years in XDG list or Bugzilla.

Please update your utilities and distribution menus to accept these changes and new Categories.

List of changes that may affect menu:

1) Science is now Main Category, not Additional Category.

Bugzilla reference: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20186
Specification Patch: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=64034

A common "Edutainment" menu, it could be now split to "Education" and "Science", or keep "Edutainment" for applications that have "Education;Science". I am not sure.

2) Allowed Main Categories changed:

2.1) Science: All items allowed for Education before are now accepted for Science as well.

Comment 1 Stanislav Brabec 2013-06-18 18:58:36 UTC
3.5 did not reach the specification. Please ignore this part - NetworkService.
Comment 2 André Klapper 2021-05-25 12:45:48 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-menus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
