GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 686645
Totem doesn't play video DVDs after installing libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4
Last modified: 2012-10-24 17:26:32 UTC
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.10 Gnome Remix 64 bits + Gnome 3 ppa. So I run Totem 3.6.0. Also installed the Ubuntu restricted package which installs libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4. Then, I run the sudo sh /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh script. Then tried to play some DVDs always same issue : - Totem starts - Displays the Title of the DVD in its title bar -> ...and that's all, stays blocked to a blank screen. So, I run in terminal and here is the output: ******************************************************************************************* libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.12 for DVD access libdvdread: Attempting to use device /dev/sr0 mounted on /media/romu/TARZAN_AND_JANE for CSS authentication libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 4.2.0 libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.12 for DVD access libdvdread: Attempting to use device /dev/sr0 mounted on /media/romu/TARZAN_AND_JANE for CSS authentication libdvdnav: Can't read name block. Bug also filed in lauchpad : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/1069839
1) Please try GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=*:2 totem 2> log and report back here. 2) Please try if unencrypted DVDs work without libdvdcss2 and libdvdread4. In general I'd prefer to keep such reports in Ubuntu's bugtracker until you are really sure that there is an issue in GNOME code. I don't see one yet here.
Thanks André, give me the time to test and I'll post the results.
Hi André, After the last updates, the DVD playback works well with this DVD. I put it as fixed, but fill free to change this status.
[Please don't change the severity field. Thanks.]
