GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 686537
GIMP windows obscuring other windows
Last modified: 2012-10-21 01:33:57 UTC
The GIMP default editor windows stay permanently on top of all other windows, obscuring windows such as PNG export. Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/WndCR.png Also, the GIMP default editor windows stay on top of other windows even when switching to other applications, such as Command+Tabbing from GIMP to Chrome to report this bug. Specs: * GIMP.app reports version 2.8.3, though this version cannot be selected in the Bugzilla Component menu. * Mac OS X 10.8.2
Thank you for reporting this. This is very similar (if not a duplicate) to bug #677776. The only difference is, that bug #677776 describes this effect in single window mode and this report is about such an effect in multi window mode. A workaround to avoid the windows being always on top is to switch to Single Window Mode (in the Window menu). Be prepared that some filter and export windows are then opened in the background and you have to open them via the dock or Cmd+Tab. The effect should be fixed in the next version. > GIMP.app reports version 2.8.3, though this version cannot be selected in the Bugzilla Component menu. If you downloaded your GIMP.app from the GIMP download site, this is only a cosmetic flaw. It then is version 2.8.2 despite the wrong version info in the About dialog.
This bug it a duplicate bug #677776, and actually caused by two things, windows floating above other windows, and windows not being pulled into the foreground. The first on is not really a bug, but rather a selected default. If you go into GIMP preferences, and click on the window management tab. Under the "Hint for docks and toolbox", select "Normal Window" from the pull-down menu. As far as windows not being pulled into the foreground, that is bug #677776 and that's being worked on. (Patches are available in the bug report.) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 677776 ***
