Description Frederic Bezies 2012-10-19 05:35:24 UTC
Hello.

This looks like to be a really recent issue, as I don't see it with gnome-shell 3.6.0.

It is very simple to reproduce. Plug in an USB HDD, an USB key, or any removable device.

After notification is shown, when I go to message tray and try to remove it cleanly using right click menu, nothing is shown.

Restarting gnome-shell shows right click menu on the first time, then nothing at all.

Using archlinux.

I reproduced this bug on both an install over gnome 3.4.x (in a qemu virtual machine) and on my real computer which was running gnome-unstable repository before so I saw this issue started with gnome-shell 3.6.1 upgrade.

Here are software versions used in archlinux :

gnome-shell 3.6.1
mutter 3.6.1
clutter 1.12.2

Just tell me if you need more infos.

As far as I know frugalware linux maintener can reproduce this bug

We removed the right-click notification on the "Removable Devices" source, if that's what you're talking about.

In a way, yes. How to cleanly unplug removable devices ? Right clicking was a simple way to do.

No, it wasn't - "Remove" in the right-click menu only referred to the message tray source (e.g. the icon), not the devices.

To unplug a device, click the eject icon in the left-click popup.

Well, I was uses to do it before with right click. Thanks for the info.

And it didn't work. If you clicked the "Remove" menu item, there was code to re-add the source to the tray. And of course, "Open" did nothing.

We removed the right click menu for this reason.
