Description Charlie_S 2012-10-17 23:59:17 UTC
I have added the PPA as per instructions on the Pitivi 'downloads' page, but neither the Ubuntu software centre nor synaptic show any Pitivi version greater than the 0.15.0-0ubuntu1 (which is the official latest version according to the Ubuntu package page, even though they do not supply / support..).

I have tried following the instructions on the Pitivi web site for creating an environment where Pitivi can be built from the latest git source; the build-deps stage fails with a message re 'but it is not going to be installed' for the python-gtk-dev requisite packages of libgtk2.0-dev and python-gobject-dev.

I have drilled into the dependencies, and it looks like:

libgtk2.0-dev needs libxi6 = 2:1.4.3-3ubuntu1; vs 2:1.4.3-3ubuntu1.1 IS ALREADY installed

python-gobject-dev has to be version = 3.0.0.0-ubuntu2; vs what is already installed = 3.0.0.0ubuntu4 is already installed...

Any hints on how to get past this impasse appreciated; need to be able to work with the latest version to provide some answers to the latest 'hangs / stalls when rendering nearly complete' bug which I have run into.

thanks in advance...

Hi there,
the 0.15.2 package is not available in https://launchpad.net/~gstreamer-developers/+archive/ppa, it is only available in universe repositories of the latest ubuntu releases. Unless you're using gstreamer >= 0.10.28, 0.15.0 is pretty much the same as 0.15.2.

The development version, currently, is not really ready for comparisons with 0.15.x so it cannot be used for investigating bugs that relate to rendering yet. Whatsmore, I don't really understand the errors you get above with dependencies, but it seems like something is borked up in your package manager's dependencies resolution.

Sorry to not be able to help further. For now, as this is not an actual *bug* report in pitivi, closing.
