Logs with GST_DEBUG=v4l2*:9

Pipeline:
gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src device=/dev/video1 ! videoconvert ! videoscale ! autovideosink

Warning:
v4l2src0: Failed to get value for control 9963779 on device '/dev/video1'.

Version:
gstreamer1-plugins-good-1.0.1

The window shows up but there is no video from the camera. This is a Microsoft LifeCam Cinema USB camera:

Interestingly, it works in Cheese with the default resolution of 1280x720 chosen by it. However it reverts back to the laptop's inbuilt camera if you fiddle with the photo resolution.

9963779 == V4L2_CID_HUE

So I doubt it's related to your problem.. That said, this log tries to open the camera in 1280x800
Comment 2 Olivier Crête 2013-01-24 03:17:31 UTC
Can you try both of these and check what works or not?

gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src ! video/x-raw, width=1280, height=800 ! videoconvert ! xvimagesink
gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src ! video/x-raw, width=1280, height=720 ! videoconvert ! xvimagesink

My guess is that some resolutions are broken for some reason ?
