GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 685929
Cannot use Cangjie for traditional Chinese if desktop language is set to English
Last modified: 2012-10-11 10:48:54 UTC
Also seen here: http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=1188 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=855250#c14 We cannot type Traditional Chinese with iBus if the locale is English.
We need either: 1. a way to set the default Chinese character filter in Control Panel; or 2. a way to configure iBus Chinese character filter in input method interface.
As mentioned by Ma Xiaojun on the list, GNOME can't help the ibus engine being broken.
I know it is not Gnome's fault. But it should be part of Gnome team's responsibility now. GNOME chose to integrate ibus because input method is essential to user experience. User experience is not limited to look and feel of input method. When integrated, ibus should be taken care as a 1st class citizen.

It's wasting our time.
