GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 685782
a11y: Orca doesn't expose the dash information about the running app
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:11:59 UTC
Bug noted on this mail: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/orca-list/2012-October/msg00052.html In summary: dash adds a glow for the apps that are currently running. Orca doesn't expose it. It would be good to explore if it is possible to expose that information, probably with a specific state.
What sort of attribute would be appropriate here?
(In reply to comment #1) > What sort of attribute would be appropriate here? As I said on the description, I was thinking on a state. So from the POV of gnome-shell it should something so as easy as: dash_item.add_accessible_state (Atk.StateType.XXX); Having said so, taking a look to the current defined states: http://developer.gnome.org/atk/stable/atk-AtkState.html#AtkStateType I'm not sure if if any of them fits with the information we want to expose. Other option is adding a new state. Anyway, I will talk with Joanmarie Diggs about this at some given moment.
The mail says Unity does something. What does Unity do?
(In reply to comment #3) > The mail says Unity does something. What does Unity do? Luke Yelavich has just proposed Unity2D solution, that it seems that is just propose a new accessible name including that the app is running: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/orca-list/2012-October/msg00056.html I added some extra questions in relation with this solution: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/orca-list/2012-October/msg00057.html As in general "just concatenate" can be problematic as a general rule (ie: internationalization).
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
