GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 685777
File Chooser doesn't show xdg-user-dirs anymore once their paths have been modified
Last modified: 2013-04-14 13:38:32 UTC
Hi, I've just modified the paths for xdg-user-dirs on my Debian Sid/GNOME 3.4 system [1]. Nautilus have taken them into account whereas GTK File Chooser didn't xdg-user-dirs are not shown in GTK File Chooser once they have been modified. Thanks [1] gedit ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs xdg-user-dirs-update && xdg-user-dirs-gtk-update.
I've manually edited ~/.gtk-bookmarks and everything works fine now. I think that ~/.gtk-bookmarks should be automatically updated by the system
This bug may have the same cause that Bug 599969 (In this bug i manually changed ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs and it wasn't take into account In the other bug i manually changed my fstab to use an entire partition as XDG_VIDEOS_DIR and it wasn't take into account either)

Okay, i was able to reproduce the problem. My father is running Debian Wheezy 7.0 (which is still under developpment ans is based upon GNOME 3.4) He has deleted by mystake its XDG Documents folder I've restored it from trash and checked ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs by the Documents folder was still missing from GTK+ FileChooser (and therefore from "Places Menu" extension [1]) I had to manually correct ~/.gtk-bookmarks Here are some thoughts : 1°) simple user should not be able to delete XDG folders 2°) but if user is able to delete XDG folders, restoring them from trash should automatic set ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs & ~/.gtk-bookmarks for restoration being take into account by the system Thanks [1] https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/8/places-status-indicator/
