GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 685292
Jerky screen shield movement
Last modified: 2012-11-05 10:07:07 UTC
The movement of the shield is often jerky as it raises or lowers. The slide really needs to be smooth.
uh, OK. "It's smooth for me"
Going to the overview is super smooth, while there's a glitch or two during the curtain fall. It definitely jumps around half way through. Feels like just before the auth form is revealed and/or covered.
Can reproduce this, it happens only occasionally, though. Most of the time, it's smooth, and sometimes, it just jumps up (i.e. from one frame to the next). I think I've never seen the animation become jerky when it goes downward, though. I am not 100% sure, but it might have something to do with when my notebook has just woken up and is on battery. (I use a 2008 Lenovo T400, with Intel Graphics)
Allan, Jakub: do you still reproduce with Rui's change about tweaking curtain animation timings? This was for bug 686745 : http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/commit/?id=b936e60876cf47d96bcc97c8f3db941747f4a614 I did not have the issue from the start, but it's nearly twice faster and not linear, so you certainly do not see the problem anymore?
It's a lot better when sped up. Although you can still see the stutter, it's in the good enough threshold for me.
(In reply to comment #5) > It's a lot better when sped up. Although you can still see the stutter, it's in > the good enough threshold for me. OK, let's close for now. We can always reopen if we decide that it's good enough.
