GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 684161
Printing large images not using HP's device interface (eg. HP Designjet 130)
Last modified: 2012-12-01 19:16:58 UTC
Created attachment 224457 [details] hp130 Print Preview When setting up 24x32 (360dpi) 139mb image to print on HP Designjet 130 -- after setting on the HP provided interface "CUSTOM 24x32 paper" and hitting PRINT -- the print preview shows the image on the 24" wide paper preview as only letter size. How can we print large format ? PS you need a "PRINTING" Component in Bugzilla. Searching "printing large" returned too much.

Thank you, Al, for reporting this. It's really not easy to find a solution out of the box, because the reason could be GIMP as well as the printer driver. 1. You showed us a screenshot of a preview. But what's coming out if you really print it? 2. How does it work with other programs, for instance image viewers? 3. How does it work with other printers? 4. How does it work if you try with GIMP from another computer? 5. Reading about a very large file lets assume the printer driver or the printer itself have problems handling the large amount of data. Can you please check HP's support site [1] whether it holds a solution for you? 6. Does using a generic printer driver or an updated HP DJ 130 printer driver solve the problem? Last but not least one hint: you can attach screenshots in pure image formats, like PNG etc., so they can be viewed directly and quickly in the browser without detours. Your answer within the next 6 weeks is appreciated. Thank you in advance. [1]http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Home.jsp?prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=352387
Sorry I should have mentioned that this HP interface worked with Photoshop CS5. That is why I can say that if the preview shows as just letter sized it will print that size (as I have done in error in the past), -- not believing the PREVIEW the first time -- when in PS. Did not want to waste expensive paper and ink to print the letter size image --- which I'd put a lot of money on coming out letter sized on the 24" paper) Because of this I'd say its fairly certain its a Gimp issue or a Gimp to HP interface issue. Can't say what would happen in another computer or OS or another large format printer. I have the latest HP Driver -- don't know of any generic driver that could replace that of HP here.
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 505123 ***
This is NOT a DUPLICATE. You are doing Gimp Support a mis-service by marking it so and closing this.
Can't you customize Bugzilla to include a "RELATED" 'status'? Related is all that this is to 505123. You can do that whilst also customizing to include a "PRINTING" 'Component'.
Why is this not a duplicate? The inability of the gtk+ printing to handle anything but letter and a4 is a known problem, and your description seems to match that problem.
I did some investigations but however we need all the questions in comment #2 answered. Also try with Inkscape, Firefox or Thunderbird, please. They use the same printing backend as GIMP. What exactly makes you so sure that this is not a duplicate of bug #505123?
Sven, Firefox and Thunderbird use GTK+ on the Windows platform? IBTD :)
