Description Tom Wijsman 2012-09-10 23:21:47 UTC
Steps to replicate:

1. Lock your Gnome Shell session, like CTRL+ALT+L.

2. Slide up the background screen.

3. Press ESC (try first outside password box, then in password box).

Resulting Behavior:

Lock Screen disappears (into gray screen) leaving only the shell bar at the top!

Expected Behavior:

Nothing happens (or put back the background screen).

Version:

   3.5.91

Sorry, but this is not what happens here.
If I press esc from the login dialog, with or without the entry focused, I'm back to the lock screen, and from that I can press esc again or swipe the curtain.
Is there anything in session logs that could hint to the cause of this failure?

Probably has to do with bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=683060

It's even gotten worse, just dragging up the lock screen hides it right away.

Is the new patch you posted there adressing my latest comment there?

(Experiencing both these bugs due to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=683755)

(Sorry, I didn't notice you're the same reporter as 683755)
Ugh, yes, if you're starting your gnome session with startx you need one of the two patches in bug 683060.

Closing duplicate, since the real issue is the same: gnome-shell's unlock dialog blows up without a good GDM on the system bus.

Happens again, this time on gdm, see bug 684320.
