Description Jeremy Bicha 2012-09-08 19:47:04 UTC
1. Open the Applications Overview by moving your mouse to the top left corner
2. Now, to show the list of all applications you need to move the mouse all the way to the bottom of the "dash" (the left sidebar) and click the 9-dot button.

What I expect:
The "Show Applications" button at the top of the dash.

Why?

1. Less mouse movement required since the mouse cursor is already in the top corner area. There's a rather vocal set of users who dislike that the list of all applications is harder to find in GNOME 3. I understand that we want to prioritize the search interface but we don't have to make a traditional view harder to find than it needs to be.
2. More consistent with System Settings which also has a similar 9-dot "All Settings" button in the top left.
3. Easier to discover. The first item in the list on the left is easier for a novice to discover. I expect it would take longer poking around the screen to eventually hover over the "Show Applications" button in its current location.

For information and maybe stats, I’ve released an extension for that ( https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/472/apps-on-top/ ) [and I don’t use it.]

Arnaud, thank you very much of Apps On Top extension, could you tell where is the source code of this extension?
I will create Ubuntu/Debian packages of this useful extension, but I would be nice to have source code in some repository.
GNOME developers, it would be nice to have a setting for this, then users wouldn't be forced to install the extension.

I've found source code of Apps On Top extension - it's on github.com/Obsidien/AppsOnTop ;)

But AppsOnTop doesn't work with the latest Gnome-Shell 3.8 release, Arnaud Bonatti, could you fix AppsOnTop to work correctly with Gnome-Shell 3.8 ?
Maybe it's enough to add sting "3.8" into file metadata.json ("shell-version" array)?

Btw, there is a patch to fix extension.js to work correctly when GNOME Shell version number has 4 version numbers (like 3.6.3.1), Arnaud Bonatti, please add this patch also:

I don't think it makes sense to keep the bug open, given that our designers disagree with the suggestion - the all-apps button serves a similar role as the ellipsis used in the "Region and Language" panel and other places, thus its placement at the end.
