Description Vincent James 2012-08-31 15:20:51 UTC
I would like the feature to convert between most *FAT* filesystems and NTFS without losing data. In some way it is possible, without having to copy the files to other drive, format and copy back.

Thank you Vincent for your interest in GParted.

Do you know of any free software tools that run under Linux for converting between FAT and NTFS file systems without losing data?

Unfortunately the two links you provided use proprietary software from Microsoft. As such it only runs on Windows, Microsoft holds the distribution license, and hence we cannot use it.

Without a Linux based free software tool for converting between FAT and NTFS, we are unable to implement this enhancement request.

This request is similar to another one for converting between several other file systems (specifically ext2, ext3, ext4, jfs, reiserfs, xfs).
