GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 683007
updates to the printer pages
Last modified: 2013-07-17 15:14:37 UTC
Some features of the printer panel are not covered in the user guide: - Change a printer name by clicking on the name and editing - Change a printer driver by clicking on the model and choosing a different driver - Setting default options for a printer by using the options dialog
- Change printer's location by clicking on the location and editing - Cancel/pause/release a print job by using the jobs dialog (click on the Show button)
When installing new printer: - You don't need to select whether you want to install network or local printer now. They are listed in one window. - You also don't need to check "Search by address", just press enter or the magnifier icon. - You can filter resulting list of found devices by writing filter string to the search entry. It filters names and locations (e.g. "1st floor", "entrance", ...).
Created attachment 243796 [details] The page describes how to change the name and location of a printer. Hello Marek, Do you think you could have a look at this page? It is only a draft as I cannot figure out how the user gets to the "location and editing phase". Thank you very much, jana
Created attachment 243817 [details] [review] pause and release a print job has been added to printing-cancel-job.page Here, I have added tasks for pausing and releasing print jobs. Could anybody review it? Thank you very much, jana
Created attachment 243818 [details] [review] a note added to printing-setup.page Here I have added a note.
Created attachment 243820 [details] [review] a note added to printing-setup-default-printer.patch Any review is welcome! Thank you, jana

I think that you don't need to add the note but you should change the sentence "In the pop-up window, select Local on the left and your new printer on the right. Click Add." to something like "In the pop-up window, select your new printer. Click Add." Another issue on the help page is that there is mentioned a button "Configure" but there is no such button. There should be probably "Options" instead.
Review of attachment 243820 [details] [review]: The filter is available only in the dialog for addition of new printers.

You should use "icon" instead of "ikon".
Review of attachment 243817 [details] [review]: Regarding the canceling of jobs, there is no printer icon shown in the top bar. You have to cancel the job the same way as you pause or release a job. ::: /tmp/BDfZ1J_printing-cancel-job.page @@ +57,3 @@ + dialog window.

+

Click the <gui>Show Jobs</gui> button on the left and either pause or + release the print job based on your needs.

The button "Show Jobs" is on the right.
Created attachment 244495 [details] [review] Printing pages updated Hello, I have implemented Marek Kašík's comments into the printing pages and squashed then into one commit. I believe it is ready to be pushed. Can anybody review it, please? Thank you, jana
Created attachment 244525 [details] [review] Peer's comments implemented Hello, I have implemented my peer's (Petr Kovář's) comments! Basically, I have reduced the content of printer-name-location.page significantly and renamed it into printing-name-location.page to make it match the standards we've been using in gnome-help. Any further comments are welcome! Cheers, jana

I reviewed the pages and made some minor edits in 81461a18830021aa48581b908c7154c9e28a72dc. I think we forgot to close this bug earlier, so I'm doing it now.
