Description Benjamín Valero Espinosa 2012-08-21 10:38:03 UTC
Today I have formatted my USB stick and set the label "KINGSTON BENJA". When mounting again the stick, I can see that the label set is "KINGSTON BE", 11 characters. Perhaps the dialogue for setting the labels could be constrained to that length, depending on the filesystem I suppose.

Thank you Benjamín for your interest in improving GParted.

You are correct that the length of the volume label is constrained by the type of file system. Currently GParted truncates labels that are longer than the length permitted by the file system.

I am setting the severity to "MINOR" because there is a workaround. For example if a user tries to set a label which is too long, the label is truncated. The user can then try to set a shorter label that will not get truncated.

Marking this report as a duplicate of Bug 689318 - filesystem type specific support for partition name maximum length.

The other bug report contains a patch to address this issue.
