Description William Jon McCann 2012-08-10 16:13:00 UTC
I regularly forget to specify a component when filing a bug. This is really annoying because the submission fails. It would be much much better to have a default component that essentially means "untriaged".

Maybe this can be done by having all products have a general component or by having per module default components.

Seems to be doable in a rather hackish manual way ( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317051 links to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36843 which requires changing templates).

Fixed in upstream Bugzilla version 4.4

bug 694344
Comment 4 Christian Kirbach 2013-02-21 23:08:32 UTC
It is actually fixed in Bugzilla 4.2 as well
Comment 5 William Jon McCann 2013-02-22 00:44:09 UTC
Hmm, is it "fixed" by displaying that big red text? I would really much prefer that each component be able to set a default category and new bugs to go into that automatically without having to ask the filer. Categorizing and filing bugs can really only be done properly by the triage team or the developers.
Comment 6 André Klapper 2013-02-22 08:18:58 UTC
4.2 says "You must select a Component for this bug." In red. :)

No plans to implement this in GNOME Bugzilla => request should be filed upstream in bugzilla.mozilla.org.
Comment 7 Olav Vitters 2013-02-22 13:09:11 UTC
Intention is 4.4 btw, not 4.2. Did not notice a default component, but also did not check.

Sounds like a dup of bug 508008
