Description Hammer Attila 2012-08-09 14:41:20 UTC
Dear developers,

I only now possible testing following problem with Nautilus 3.4.2Pre version and Orca 3.4, but the problem possible existing with Orca master and gnome-3-6 branch version:
I experienced in Nautilus icon view Orca spokening invalid position index values both normal speech and where am I operation. For example, if I have the first folder, I hear 2 of any position index value. If I move one folder, I hear 4 of any value, etc.
If I doing a where am I operation, always hear wrong value.

Reproducation steps:
1. Open Orca preferences dialog, and check speech page the speak child position check box.
2. Open home folder, and move arrow keys in the icon view. Listen position index values, and listen where am I output.

I attaching the debug file.

Hy Joanie,

In Fedora the awailable upstream Nautilus version I not experienced this issue (I think Nautilus upstream version use different canwas control not iconview).
But in Ubuntu Quantal I reproduced this issue the developers modifyed Nautilus version.
Look following downstream report if you have a little time:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1061550

When I tested this issue with upstream Nautilus version, I used Fedora 18 Alpha.
I think in Fedora the awailable Nautilus version not icon view control using, using GTK Canwas. This control not pass entire position index values to Orca.

If memory serves me, the fix was working as expected in Nautilus 3.5.x and you asked about it being backported to Nautilus 3.4.x and the developer agreed to do so. I wonder if something went wrong in the backporting?

Regardless.... As I understand it from your comments, the bug does not occur in upstream Nautilus. And the bug which occurs downstream is in Nautilus and not Orca. Therefore, I am going to close this upstream Orca bug out because I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about it.

Joanie, when I tested the bug 677509 related doed fix in Nautilus gnome-3-4 branch (awailable the fix in this branch after 3.4.2 Nautilus maintenance release is released), I experienced this interesting result with I wrote this report when I detected this issue. The bug 677509 fix is newer released in Nautilus 3.4 series a new maintenance release (for example 3.4.3 Nautilus version).
I very surprised when tested the Nautilus latest upstream version in Fedora 18 alpha, because if I moved any icons, I hear after spokened folder or file name with canwas graied message.
If need reporting this canwas related experience with Orca related, I will be doing this report next week.
In Nautilus latest upstream version the bug 677509 bug related doed fix is reverted, or changed Nautilus using widget when presenting folders, files and icons in GNOME 3.6 fallback session in icon view?
