Description Frederic Peters 2012-07-31 10:21:39 UTC
During the GNOME OS BoF session at GUADEC we settled on using the gnome-os list for further discussions but then we noticed it had been closed.

Could you reopen it? I don't know what was the previous list description, could it be set to "List to discuss and plan midterm goals of GNOME"? Alternatively it could also be a new list (maybe "gnome-future").

Thanks.

Why not have development discussions on e.g. d-d-l? It is hardly used.

Creating new lists just splits the community IMO.

I find a future list a bit vague. What will happen in ~5 years?

I think we wanted to have something a bit more focused to begin with. We'd also like a place where details can be thrashed out.

Any major proposals will of course go through d-d-l.

As Allan suggests we felt it would be useful to have a place where we can have initial discussions about topics related to some medium term goals that affect various parts of GNOME before they are presented to all the community in d-d-l, the planet, or other forums.

We will be making plans for the next 5 years.

Can we get this settled soon ? I'd like to start discussing the outcomes of last Mondays BoF on this list before it fades to far back into everybody's memory

List created, please adjust its description. [1]

fwiw I proposed "List to discuss and plan midterm goals of GNOME" in the initial comment.

The consensus in the BoF was that we'd like to reopen the 'gnome-os' list, moving away the old archives if they are still around. If this is technically possible we'd very much prefer to go that way.
Comment 8 William Jon McCann 2012-08-07 20:59:08 UTC
I really don't think this list name reflects the consensus we reached. I think calling it -future lacks proper focus. I think we want this list to be a place where we can work together to achieve well defined goals. Not a place to wax on the future of GNOME. That is best done on personal blogs.

I talked with Olav and is going to look at this tomorrow. Reopening as he requested

FYI:

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-os/ doesn't link to the right place though.

gnome-os are the archives for the old list. The new one is at: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-os-list/

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/ is updated only once/day via cron.
