GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 680556
On-screen keyboard is missing the ~ (tilda) character
Last modified: 2013-02-16 00:36:29 UTC
There is no way to type a ~ (tilda) character using the on-screen keyboard. tilda is a very important symbol in Unix and Unix-like environments.
^ (circumflex accent) is also missing compared to my iOS keyboard.
Created attachment 223033 [details] [review] patch for missing characters This patch provides missing characters ~ and ^ for touch mode
Review of attachment 223033 [details] [review]: There are some more oddities in the touch mode: http://ueno.fedorapeople.org/screenshots/touch-layout-oddities.png Maybe better ask for the concrete design of level 3 & 4, before fixing it locally. (btw, this bug should be reassigned to caribou)
reassigning to caribou
Created attachment 235883 [details] [review] Add missing symbols to touch layouts -- Haven't heard any news from the design team yet and the UI freeze is approaching, I'd propose the layouts for level 2&3, based on iOS OSK. It doesn't touch the level 1 layout, so I think it is compatible with the original design.
Do you have a screenshot of the proposed layouts ? That would be really helpful
Created attachment 235990 [details] [review] Add missing symbols to touch layouts -- Tweak some symbols on level 2 not to include non-ASCII characters, and enlarge keys on the 3rd row.

go for it, I would say. The designers were in favour.
