Description Tristan Brindle 2012-07-16 13:03:41 UTC
In order to make "Web" the default browser in Gnome 3, one needs to go to <Name menu> -> System Settings -> Details -> Default Applications.

All other modern browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera) have this as an option under their own preferences/options menu, so it's reasonable that this is where a user will look first. It's also quicker and a lot more discoverable than going through the above process.

I agree that the Default Applications window is not very discoverable, but I would prefer to fix _that_, instead of working around the problem by adding a redundant preference in Web.
Comment 2 Michael Catanzaro 2015-09-24 13:19:21 UTC
Yeah, all other modern browsers do this because they are competing with each other. In GNOME we are the default browser, and uninstallable, so....

A better comparison would be to gedit. It doesn't have a "set as default text editor" option. All apps can't have this; it needs to be done in a central place.
