Description Jean-François Fortin Tam 2012-07-15 23:07:06 UTC
Everytime search results in the overview change,
- Any open popup menus get closed
- The item highlight (the "selection" prelight when you put the mouse cursor over an item) is reset. The very annoying side-effect of preventing from clicking that item afterwards; you have to move the mouse cursor away from the item and then come back to highlight it before being able to click it.

Basically, there is a race between my clicks and the search results.
Yep, I am a quicksilver when it comes to interacting with an efficient UI.

You can still click on the item even though it is not prelit.
Comment 3 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2012-07-16 01:47:52 UTC
Hmmm. Not necessarily/not always. Clicking a non-prelit item does seem to work if you wait long enough for the search results to be finished, or if you click before the new search results come up and "reset" the prelighting, or something along those lines.

But there seems to be one or two cases where it eats my clicks. I've re-checked that just now. I'm not entirely sure of the time window during which this occurs, it's kinda hard to figure out the pattern behind the timing.

Another observation: sometimes when you left click quickly on an icon while this search is still going on... it will interpret it as a right-click (it will show the contextual menu for that icon). I had to make sure it wasn't just a glitch, but it occured again to me just now.

It could be thinking it's a long press on the icon.
Comment 6 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:30:54 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
