Please attach logs from empathy-debugger.
Comment 4 brian baker 2012-07-16 09:02:25 UTC
it seems that that it is todo with gnome-online-accounts they don't connect to enter your credentials. After removing both facebook and gTalk from empathy and deleting google and facebook from gnome-online-accounts and rebooting and then just adding account info in emapthy all wking as it should!

is it possible to re-assign this bug report as a gnome-online-accounts one?
cheers
Comment 5 Guillaume Desmottes 2012-07-16 09:17:09 UTC
Oh yeah, Xavier told me about some race in the GOA code preventing accounts to connect in some case. Maybe that's what you are experiencing.
Comment 6 Guillaume Desmottes 2012-07-16 09:21:50 UTC
Oh, he says that's actually a libsoup regression. Could you try upgrading it from this PPA and see if that helps? https://launchpad.net/~webkit-team/+archive/ppa
Comment 7 brian baker 2012-07-16 13:27:37 UTC
ok i will do this, i was looking at the dependencies for gnome-online-accounts on the Gnome GIT Source Code Repository and i saw that lib-secret was one but i couldn't find it in the ubuntu repos!
Comment 8 brian baker 2012-07-16 13:35:10 UTC
just was looking at the ppa and there are no libsoup packages for quantal or precise!

:-) i mean't in the https://launchpad.net/~webkit-team/+archive/ppa :-)
though the webkit update did seem to fix the online-accounts login issue :-) only thing is now gnome-contacts isn't talking nice with the online-accounts!
and i am still using Empathy 3.5.3 on ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal) using latest gnome-shell from ppa:ricotz/testing etc :-)
cheers

What's the output if you start gnome-contacts with G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all ?
Comment 13 brian baker 2012-07-18 16:22:59 UTC
i had to send the output of G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all gnome-contacts via dropbox link to your mail gdesmott@gnome.org did you get it or shall break it down into smaller files?
Comment 14 Guillaume Desmottes 2012-07-19 07:44:22 UTC
Did you see any contact in gnome-contacts? If you search for your IM contacts using gnome-contacts, can you find them?
Comment 15 brian baker 2012-07-19 10:37:53 UTC
hi no you can't gnome-contacts will not progress further than opening online-accounts window!
also when you first start emapthy no contacts are shown you have to quit and restart to see any contacts!
when you do a search in GS itself the contacts are not coming up either!
one other thing i tried was having google and facebook logged in in the online-accounts and just facebook contacts will show not any gmail ones.

Sounds like a Folks issue, that may explain why you don't see any contact with gnome-contacts either. Re-assigning.
Comment 17 brian baker 2012-07-20 09:30:13 UTC
ok thank you :-)
Comment 18 Jeremy Whiting 2012-07-20 17:45:48 UTC

Comment 19 brian baker 2012-07-23 08:47:04 UTC

Comment 20 Philip Withnall 2012-07-23 23:28:12 UTC

Explaining what exactly you do, what exactly you see, and where, is welcome!!!!! Also see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/page.cgi?id=bug-writing.html !!!!!!!!!

> and now we have two online accounts in system settings!!!!

Did you tell your distro???????????????????????? ???? ???????
Comment 23 brian baker 2012-10-07 08:45:56 UTC
hi Andre
at the top of the bug report is my distro info etc!
currently i am running ubuntu 12.10 development release (quantal) with the ppa's from ricotz ricotz/testing and staging as well as the gnome3-team ppa.

just as a recap
gnome-contacts has ceased to function!
when you try to add an online account it takes you to online accounts window and allows you to set up an account i.e. google which is fine and wks!
after going through the various steps of authentication it just stops! it should take you back into gnome-contacts but it doesn't.
when you run gnome-contacts through a terminal it shows no errors either!
as for telling my distro it has todo with this:
