GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 679093
New Save vs. Export Scheme is Awful
Last modified: 2012-09-19 12:08:48 UTC
Love the GIMP but come on guys. If I open a jpg, edit it and make changes I expect ctl-s to save my edited jpg. There are way too many steps to export it back to the original file. Real world - nobody cares about xcf. We live in a jpg/png universe. From time to time I use the native format but I am far more likely to use GIMP to manipulate more common image formats. I already know that some developer is going to get in a huff over what looks like criticism. I've been at this since Redhat 7.x so spare me the outrage. Just some honest feedback. Seriously.
go away
There are tons of honest feedback in the mailing list on complaints like this one. Would you like us to invent new kinds of honest feedback for the novelty sake? :)
Sometimes I am too much of a smartass for my own good. It comes with the freedom of retirement. But I digress because you raise a good point. Many people have more mailing list subscriptions than they could ever possibly read. I do. For many of us who do more than Linux, they have become unmanageable. The notion of subscribing to yet another list to submit some feedback which may - or may not be read by people involved in development - can be daunting. More importantly, allow me to restate the bug: Re: Save/Export Awkwardness A reasonable expectation of opening any file type is that changes will be saved back to that file type. That is the persistent scheme across various platforms. That holds true irrespective of the native format of the application. In other words, I think that GIMP had it right for years. Sorry for being obnoxious.
