Description Allan Day 2012-06-04 16:21:31 UTC
The panel is essentially a tool for configuring multiple displays, but it is difficult to know what it is for when there is only one display. This can be confusing.

If there is only one display it would be better to blank the panel and show a message indicating that a second display is needed. See:

Well, you can use it to change the resolution/rotation of a single display. If the display doesn't allow changing those, however, I agree. It would still be nice to show the current resolution, for reference.

It's hard to implement a spinner while detection is taking place - XRRGetScreenResources() is synchronous.

(Also, detection is pretty fast anyway - one or two seconds at most, *and* if the displays need to be brought up to date, everything will flash when you press that button. We can make the flashing prettier; I don't think a spinner is necessary as it is obvious that something is happening.)

This is something else to look at as a part of a displays panel redesign.

The redesigned interface is now in master.
