Description Miloš Mandarić 2012-05-28 13:56:09 UTC
Reported here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/1005531

I wanted to add Ubuntu irc server in Empathy and default port number is 6667.
So I need to change this to 8001. When I click on port number I get only + and - button.
Would be nice to make that number editable? Or is this a bug?

You have the option in empathy to edit which port is used first.

In the account wizard, click the IRC connection you want to change
Click to Edit Connection Parameters
Click "Freenode" (Thats the Ubuntu server)
Click edit when freenode is selected in the server list
Expand the window down, and select the freenode listing with 8001 as the port, then using the up arrow click it until it does grey and you've made 8001 the default server port that empathy will use.

Although, That's too many steps and quite confusing for the average user.

So I wouild recommend changing this bug to a feature request.
Comment 2 Miloš Mandarić 2012-05-28 18:17:19 UTC
Well I didn't know I can find that under Freenode. I am used to Xchat so I thought I need to make same configuration like in that program.

And yes I agree this should be changed to feature request.

The average user don't need to care about the port being used, it just have to choose the IRC network he's connecting to.

Closing for now as this is not likely to change atm (we'd need to redesign the IRC account widget first and it's not really top priority).
Comment 4 Miloš Mandarić 2012-06-26 09:38:23 UTC
I know I am the minority but you can't just disregard this because small number of users will add new IRC networks.

I agree it's not high priority but still needs to be fixed.
