Description misakiblossom 2012-05-19 00:49:02 UTC
I have not had Gimp for a while, seeing as I had to get rid of it while my computer was being wiped out, but I remember how to use it.
But I recently downloaded the new version of Gimp, and Im trying all I can to try to get my Intuos4 tablet to work on the newer version, but nothing is working.
I'm trying to work my pen, and adjust the sensitivity and everything, both on Gimp, and on the Tablet System Preferences.
Ive asked for help from others, and they say it may not work for Intuos Tablets, and I'm thinking that may be a slight bug in the system.

I'm also having a bit of trouble with some of the controls, which I can't really find how to completely work Gimp in any of the release notes...
(so many buttons, hng)

It's generally been the rule-of-thumb to actually use the pen tablet to open up gimp.
As in, use the pen, double-click on the gimp icon, and paint.

Of course you could also try going to "Edit - Input Devices", selecting all of the ones related to your tablet and then selecting "Screen" for the Mode pulldown menu.

It's not so much the "open gimp with the tablet", but "make sure that the tablet devices have been used before you start gimp in a Windows session".

Could be a duplicate of bug #471342.

Thanks, missakiblossom, for reporting this bug.
Please try again with the current GIMP 2.8.2 you find at gimp-win.sourceforge.net. Also - if you haven't done yet - install the Wacom tablet drivers.
Then go to Edit/Input Devices. Is your device listed there? If no, is it like bug#471342?
If it's listed, please select each 'Wacom' item and in the Modus field choose 'Screen'. After confirming the dialog the pen should be recognized by GIMP immediately.
To use for instance pressure dependent brush size, use an appropriate Dynamics setting in the Painting tools. The Dynamics 'Pencil Generic' is for instance a good starting point.
If all of this doesn't help, we will have to wait until the GTK3 port is done in a later version.
Can you please report within the next 6 weeks, whether your problem was solved?
