GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 676278
Network manager opens too many dialogs on bad WiFi (Authentication Required)
Last modified: 2013-01-25 01:40:23 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1, Try to connect to a WiFi network with a bad password or to a very unreliable WiFi network - get the dialog "Authentication Required" 2, Leave your laptop for longer time, e.g. an hour or two Expected result: Shown only one "Authentication Required" dialog per "known" network. Actual result: Many dialogs. They are placed on top of each other, creating an illusion of un-closable dialog. Note: Find out on a conference with a bad WiFi Network. Version: 0.9.4 from Ubuntu Precise
I wonder if this is the problem of the frontends or NetworkManager itself. For example. What frontend did you use? Gnome?
It occurs for me using Unity, a friend of mine can reproduce it using GNOME Shell.
Thanks. Moving to gnome-shell.
Hey, the reporter said it happens for him under Unity, and that a friend also experiences this under the Shell. This seems to indicate the bug is in NetworkManager. Anyway, we cannot debug a Shell bug with a reporter using Unity. ;-) FWIW, bug 667156 deals with a similar issue in GNOME Shell.
Thanks.
This is a duplicate bug of https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=665503 which was apparently fix with this commit: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=30fe3e18766367d159dfb16d7ca5559d7dc58b9a
