GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 675190
Forgot password does not remind limit of 16 caracters
Last modified: 2012-05-01 20:14:42 UTC
It has been some time since I have needed to reporta bug. Your products are so good! But I had forgotten my password so I wrote a new one (larger than 16 caracters) I did not get any warning of it being too big so I tried logging in. I was desperate because it did not let me log in, tried the "forgot password" several times. Finally attempted to create a new account with a new email thinking i had some sort of bug in mine. That is when I saw that it was a 16 caracter limit. Tried my password again this time ignoring the last caracters and I was able to log in. I was expecting to get a warning of some sort in the type your password, type your password again phase. I think that someone less persistant than myself would give up reporting bugs.
Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 647849 ***
Hi André I agree that accepting long passwords would solve the problem but I think the bug I report here can be solved simply by adding "remember new password must be 16 characters long" in the new password/ repeat new password prompt. Solving bug 647849 might be a more difficult issue and will take more time?
We probably won't solve either of them and wait for upstream fixing instead. Your proposal could be added to bug 647849 though. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 647849 ***
