Description mohanohi 2012-04-23 08:36:52 UTC
EDL (Edit decision list) is the most and ancient form of getting footage from and to other Editing Applications. EDL import and export feature is available in all the editing application incl cinelerra(import & export), Blender (import). It would be very helpful if this feature be included in Pitivi. As Pitivi gives realtime playback of H.264 AVCHD Material it would be great if this feature been implemented. Right Now i am doing Cinelerra with Lot of Proxy files. Cinelerra has got EDL out hence doing in it. If this feature implemented in Pitivi I could edit and deliver EDL for Autodesk Smoke/ Blender users for Advanced Color Grading / VFX works. Please consider this request. I think implementing EDL isn't that impossible to do.

Yes, this is a feature we want. This will have to be done in GES. If you happen to be able to provide a patch for it, it would be quite welcome!

Sorry Jean,
I am an Film Editor. Not a programmer. Sorry couldn't help you out with this. Anyhow you could look into Cinelerra for further reference. It supports CMX3600 based EDL.

Just a note though: EDL is quite non-standard.
Every commercial app has its own (slightly incompatible) implementation.
Comment 4 mohanohi 2012-04-24 04:29:39 UTC
EDL non standard?? i know there are different variations of it. But I often get CMX3600 EDL from other editors to do color grading footages. Avid, Sony, Premier uses standard EDL which is readable for major Color Grading suite (including Smoke, Assimilate scratch, Iridas speedgrade etc.,). And in many projects AAF has gone nuts in our workflow. It works sometime and doesn't the other time. I don't know how it is non-standard while we are using EDLs for all of our projects here??!

Hi, you misinterpreted what I meant in comment #3.
You said it yourself: "there are different variations* of it".

This is not a dismissal of your use case. Don't panic.

*: if you can provide documentation/specifications/sample EDL formats for the various editing software applications out there, please do so.
