GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 674290
Cannot take screenshot in fallback mode (without gnome-shell)
Last modified: 2013-04-07 01:17:57 UTC
Since version 3.3/3.4, I cannot take a screenshot in fallback mode. If I run gnome-screenshot from the command line (without any arguments), I'm given this error: WARNING **: Unable to use GNOME Shell's builtin screenshot interface, resorting to fallback X11. Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.Shell was not provided by any .service files By the error message, it doesn't look like it's actually "resorting to fallback X11"
I also saw this sometimes, however not recently (and not even in fallback mode).

Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: > The name org.gnome.Shell was not provided by any .service files This is not an error message, it's just a warning. Do you see the white flashspot/hear the shutter sound? Note that since 3.4 we don't show the save dialog anymore after a screenshot is taken; do you see any screenshot files in ~/Pictures?
I see the flash, but I do not see the file in Pictures nor in ~ (the fallback). To be sure I tested this by running a backup before and after, no new picture anywhere =/

Can you try to run it in interactive mode? (with the --interactive option) Do you get a thumbnail in the dialog after the screenshot is taken?
Yes, I get a thumbnail and the SS saves to where I want it with -i
I guess this is a dup of bug 669629
