colorful startup splash

I don't know if there are any guidlines for the use of official splash screens, however this is a suggestion for a possible startup screen for GIMP 2.8. Hope you like it!
Comment 1 André Klapper 2012-04-16 07:55:48 UTC
Did you create the picture with brushes yourself?
Which license would this be under? :)

same splash, but I put wilber above the crossing line
Comment 3 bernhard 2012-04-16 11:48:18 UTC
The creator of the brushes picture wrote me that the picture can be distributed under gplv3:

his message: "Absolutely no problem, I am a GIMP user and would be proud to be contribute.

John"

The image on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spadgy/313250749/
His name is "John Ward".

I've added a new attachment with wilber above the diagonal lines (requested by Martin Nordholts on mailing list).
Comment 4 Alexia Death 2012-04-16 19:14:50 UTC
Better, but can you do a version with that sharp line slightly blurred? I find the whole line strongly distracting...

2 versions - changed the crossing lines

hey girls and guys,

sorry for the delay - I was at work outside so I did not have time to make these adjustements. one versions line is now blurred, the second is without it.
Comment 6 Alexia Death 2012-04-25 09:55:29 UTC
Can you post the one without the line alltogether, the lower one as a standalone image? I really like it and think we should use it.

final touched up splash without the diagonal line

alright, here we go ;)

I'd appreciate if you use it for GIMP!

an alternative (as suggested on the list)

gespertino suggested this one. I prefer my old one but tastes are different ;)
Comment 9 Alexia Death 2012-04-25 17:44:56 UTC
Can you do one without the line but with wilber translucent like on the initial proposal?
Comment 10 Alexia Death 2012-05-01 17:33:57 UTC
To late... commiting https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=212783
Comment 11 bernhard 2012-05-01 23:03:47 UTC
thats okay ;) the translucent look came from the layer mode of the crossing line. so if the line is away this look is gone too...
Comment 12 Michael Natterer 2012-05-02 10:42:12 UTC
We can't reserve space like that for the text at the bottom, because
that text has a different size for everybody. In order to get a uniform
background, the only option is a gradient. Is there an XCF of this
image somewhere?

my attempt for the splash

Adding slight fadeout to give more contrast for the text.

new splash for gimp 2.8, made by Bernhard Stockmann
Comment 20 bernhard 2012-05-02 13:19:19 UTC
hey again. sorry that I couldn't assist you in the last days. I'm just in jump to Germany for work so all I can do right now is to upload the XCF. maybe someone can adjust the file as necessary, otherwise I can do it for 2.8.1 or so after I'm back next week...
