patch implementing the points in the description

a) added usage information when not enough arguments added
b) put the majority of code into an exception handling block so that if something goes wrong the session is closed.  Prior to this change a problem would result in a lingering lock.

P.S. your patch is very nice. However, it would simplify my committing work if you could run svn diff from the base of your working directory instead of from example_scripts. But thanks again for the patch as is already.
