Description KallenbachAlex 2012-03-30 11:14:53 UTC
Facebook-chat is broken since a while.
I'm receiving messages but the messages I'm sending don't reach my friends.

I've already posted a bug on Launchpad a while ago: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/921051 (Status set to private)

Could you please attach telepathy-gabble logs (help -> debug) when sending a message?

In fact today I was able to chat with someone in Facebook. But with this evening I tried to chat with someone else and again it didn't work. As I already mentioned in the launchpad-Bug-report there are a lot of other Empathy-users with the same problem:

The bug seems to be reduced to just some of my Facebook-Contacts.
Comment 5 KallenbachAlex 2012-04-01 11:36:38 UTC
OK, I've found out why the Facebook-chat worked with some of my contacts but not with some others. If the contact has deactivated all applications than they can't receive my messages. If they've activated applications in general they can receive my messages. So a Facebook-problem and not one of Empathy?
Comment 6 Guillaume Desmottes 2012-04-02 09:36:28 UTC
Ideally we should report the error to the user but Facebook doesn't seem to send one. I'll ask to Facebook XMPP developers about this.

Why do you mean exactly by "deactivated all applications"? How can I configure my Facebook account to reproduce this problem?

Here are the answers I got from the FB team. That's definitely a bug on their side.

"We've found that this happens if the user hasn't enabled Facebook apps: http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Protocol%20Specific%20Questions#WhycantPidginseemtosendFacebookmessages
When using the web chat interface you'll get an error message, but there's no feedback when using XMPP"

"We've been aware of the problems with platform app settings, but only in the context of presence being inconsistent with regular username/password login. If we're actually failing to deliver messages and providing no feedback to the XMPP sender, that's a much worse bug. I'll make sure it gets fixed."
